The Art Museum of the Americas presents: 'The Great Swindle' by Santiago Montoya
Halcyon Gallery is proud to announce Colombian artist Santiago Montoya first Museum exhibition in the United States: The Great Swindle, 2016 - 2017, OAS AMA, Art Museum of the Americas, Washington D.C.
Comprised of works that Santiago Montoya has made over the last ten years, The Great Swindle at the OAS AMA, Art Museum of the Americas (October 20, 2016 - March 26, 2017) represents a sustained examination of the complicated, fluid relationships we have with financial systems. Santiago Montoya uses paper currency as the base of his work, re-contextualizing one of our most basic and intimate relationships: the relationship with money.
The exhibition curated by Professor Jose Luis Falconi, is also a journey through the artist's foray into the materiality of paper bills - raising questions and taking positions on our places within financial systems. Montoya's The Great Swindle is an ongoing exploration of paper money as a platform of political propaganda, exploiting iconic pictures to bolster power and to embed imagery into national consciousness. OAS AMA, Art Museum of the Americas is proud to have welcomed One Man Many People (2011), a work included in this exhibition, into its permanent collection.
